The Intermediate Module examination and FCPS Part 2 mark the middle and final stages of residency training with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. IMM is sat partway through training and tests specialty-specific knowledge at a depth well beyond the entry examination. FCPS Part 2 is the exit assessment, combining written papers with clinical and oral components that examine independent clinical judgement rather than recall.
Both are sat under conditions that make preparation genuinely difficult. Residents are carrying full clinical loads, often with on-call commitments, and the gap between the reading a candidate manages and the reading the examination assumes is where most failures originate.
