Three examinations stand between you and MRCP(UK). Choose the one you’re sitting and you’ll get the format, the next dates, the course, and the mentors who teach it.
MRCP(UK) is awarded by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, made up of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
It is a three-part assessment. Part 1 tests the scientific and clinical knowledge underpinning medical practice. Part 2 Written tests how you apply that knowledge to investigation, diagnosis and management. PACES tests whether you can do it in front of a patient.
In the UK, full MRCP(UK) is what opens the door to higher specialist training at ST3. Outside it, the qualification travels: health systems across the Gulf, Ireland, Australia and South Asia recognise it as evidence that a physician has been assessed against one of the more demanding standards in postgraduate medicine.
The exams are sat in order. Part 1 must be passed before you attempt either Part 2 Written or PACES, and there is a limit on the number of attempts permitted at each.
Full regulations, dates and fees are published by the Federation at thefederation.uk.
